We need your help to document the spread and impact of tar spot and southern rust of corn
Tar spot – if you find tar spot in counties that are currently not confirmed (in yellow) for this season, please let us know. It’s important that we document the extent of the problem, so that appropriate resources are used to tackle this issue. A picture of suspected tar spot can be emailed to chilvers@msu.edu or through Twitter @MartinChilvers1.
Southern rust – although generally a minor issue for us in the North there certainly has been a high level of southern rust this year. We need to document the spread of this disease too to improve management of this disease. If you suspect that you have southern rust, please grab a leaf and let it dry in a paper bag for shipping/drop off. For more information, click here to read a detailed article on southern rust.
