Michigan Corn Growers Association Applauds Passage of State Program to Assist Farmers
LANSING – The Michigan Corn Growers Association today applauded the Michigan Legislature for allocating $15 million to a low-interest loan program to help farmers grappling with crop losses associated with historic rainfall.
“Michigan has been hit with unprecedented rainfall throughout this growing season that has prevented many farmers from planting and will have a negative impact on overall crop yields,” said Matt Frostic, president of the Michigan Corn Growers Association. “This assistance will help farmers weather the storm and make it through to next year’s planting season. We thank Michigan’s legislators for looking out for Michigan farmers during these tough times and look forward to Governor Whitmer signing the bill.”
The legislation would appropriate $15 million into the Agricultural Disaster Loan Origination Program. Growers, processors and handlers can get a 1% interest rate on loans. The bill now moves to Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s desk for her approval.
The Michigan Corn Growers Association (MCGA) is a grassroots organization of grower members dedicated to increasing the profitability of corn production.
