In his role as executive director, Piggott leads CMPM in its mission to enhance the economic position of Michigan corn growers by growing markets for corn and corn products, educating and promoting corn with members of the public, and funding research to improve production and find new uses for corn. He also leads  MCGA in its efforts to advance legislation in Lansing and in Washington, D.C. that grows Michigan’s corn industry and increases the profitability of corn farming.

Prior to this role, Piggott served as the CEO of Michigan Farm Bureau for more than 10 years beginning in 2012. He began his career with Michigan Farm Bureau in 2000 as the Natural Resources and Right to Farm specialist, and became manager of the newly created Agricultural Ecology Department in 2002, where his responsibilities included all environmental issues that impact agriculture.

He has served on more than 20 boards and committees including cochairing the Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program (serving alongside several MSU leaders as cochair for 12 years) and the Michigan Groundwater Conservation Advisory Council. He represented Great Lakes Basin agriculture in the development of the Great Lakes Compact that was eventually codified in state and federal law.

He has participated in transition teams for State of Michigan administration changes, and serves as a director for several non-profits and financial institutions. He has been an invited fellow for environmental concerns at Michigan State University, the University of Michigan and the University of Toronto. He has also served MSU in leadership and advisory capacities for several endowed chair searches, curriculum reviews, and Right to Farm practice standard committees as well as the MSU Institute of Water Resources Advisory Team.
