The Corn Marketing Program of Michigan (CMPM), Michigan Soybean Committee and Michigan Wheat Program today announced an online workshop covering the basics of grain marketing. The workshop includes three sessions which take place on Tuesdays from 7-9 p.m.

Feb. 23 - Session 1: Fundamentals
Mar. 2 - Session 2: Strategies
Mar. 9 - Session 3: Application

“We’re holding these workshops because we saw a need for more education around grain marketing to give growers the tools they need to manage their operations,” said Claire Dewey, outreach director for CMPM. “This workshop is an opportunity for newer farmers to broaden their knowledge and for experienced farmers to refresh their skills.”

The workshop will be led by Matt Gammans, assistant professor of agricultural, food, and resource economics at Michigan State University.

“This workshop will provide a brief overview of the pricing tools available to producers, including cash sales, forward contracts, hedging, options and minimum price contracts,” said Gammans. “The goal is that attendees will understand the basics of how these tools work and have more confidence when considering expanding the set of pricing tools they use.”

The event is free, but preregistration is required. Interested growers should visit www.micorn.org/events to register.
